COVID vs the Siblings
/Well, we didn’t leave for Blanche’s inaugural road trip on March 10th as planned. A few complications got in the way.
Mary wasn’t feeling well one night a week or so ago and by the next day she was feeling downright rotten with a dry cough and sore throat. She took an at-home COVID test and it was negative. She wasn’t feeling any better the next day so she kept her distance from family and scheduled an at-home nurse visit. They retested her for Covid and strep. Negative on strep, but positive for Covid. After several days just feeling drained and fatigued, she’s actually feeling much better now, the cough has abated. Her 5 days of quarantining are up and she’s back to work.
In the meantime, a day or so after Mary was feeling lousy, Paul started feeling lousy. First came cold-like symptoms, then he lost his sense of taste and smell. Uh-oh! The at-home test showed positive. He, too, was overly fatigued and spent several days just sleeping. He says he’s feeling human again, and the taste and smell have thankfully returned.
We were both still feeling fine and figured we’d dodged the bullet, but because we had been exposed, we did an at-home test just to make sure. David has had cold-like symptoms not unlike allergy symptoms: runny nose, congestion and some coughing for a few days. David’s at-home test results showed positive. I tested negative. Go figure. I reckon it’s only a matter of time for me to test positive, but I’m feeling fine. David, too, is feeling fine and we’re still making progress on Blanche’s upfit.
We’ve all been vaccinated and boosted which I realize is a matter of contention for some. It wasn’t for us. It wasn’t political, just a personal decision that made sense. The vaccine never guaranteed to prevent the virus, it just offers protection against severe disease and hospitalization and it seems to be doing its job. So I guess in the battle of Covid vs. the vaccinated sibs… the sibs are winning.
By the time you read this, we’re all pretty much back to normal and COVID-free again. Blanche is chomping at the bit and we’re really ready to get on the road. Soon… very soon.
