A few days delay and a minor bout with COVID and we’re finally on our way. It was a lazy exit from Las Vegas as we had no definite destination in mind. This is Blanche’s “shakedown cruise” and we were champing at the bit to be on the road. We’re nomads at heart. Gypsies, wanderers… addicted to travel… slow travel.

 Along the Gulf Coast and on to San Antonio

We barreled across the Gulf Coast states on I-10. Mobile, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge all whizzed by in a blur. We stopped at each state’s Welcome Center for a few moments to stretch our legs and pick up state road maps (just in case), and by design, avoided stops in the big cities. We were heading to San Antonio, Texas to walk the lovely Riverwalk and explore the historic Spanish colonial missions.

We were departing Tallahassee when our son, Brennan, called and mentioned a hike to a haunted bridge not too far away. Haunted bridge? Where? The Bellamy Bridge in Marianna, Florida, west only an hour away, became our new next destination.
