Blue View – What's Coming in 2019
/It's a new year with lots of new (and maybe not so new) resolutions and plans. During the couple of weeks we took off from blog writing, we had time to plan out the year. It also gave me time to think about Blue View topics for the upcoming months. Here are a few of the things in the works.
Ebooks. We plan to finish a new eBook or two this year. If you count the second edition of our anchoring book, these will be the fourth and fifth books we've published. That certainly doesn't make us experts on the process, but I do believe we are starting to get the hang of it. I thought a few blogs devoted to the 'how-to' aspects of publishing your own eBook might be interesting.
Blue Upfit. We did the absolute basics of the upfit of our Ford Transit van, Blue, last year – then we took him camping and on a couple of great road trips. What we discovered was that we really don't need everything we had originally planned, and have modified our plans considerably. We'll try to get another chunk of the upfit completed over the next couple of months, and I'll devote at least a few blogs to the process.
Trekking the Via Francigena. From mid April to mid July, we'll be trekking the ~1100 mile route of an old pilgrimage road, the Via Francigena, that stretches from Canterbury, England to Rome. Marcie will be doing lots of blogs along the route while I'll write about our preparations. There's lots to consider – what gear to take; how to break the route into manageable sections (around 15 miles a day is about the limit our old bodies can manage while carrying packs); what guides and maps are best; language issues; communications options; lodging – we'll be using everything from hostels to hotels, with the occasional monastery thrown in... the list is long. Hopefully, working out these details will make for a few interesting Blue Views.
All in all, quite a variety of topics. While I have no illusions that everyone will find them all amusing and informative, I do hope that you will find something of interest. So, stay tuned - and in the meantime, we wish you a
