Blue View - Back in the Saddle Again
/Most bad habits are tough to break. One of Mark Twain’s more famous quotes was “Giving up smoking is easy – I’ve done it hundreds of times”. He also stated that he was “quite successful at abstaining from smoking while asleep”. He never was, however, able to permanently kick the tobacco habit. For me, giving up cigarettes was tough, but nothing like giving up my crack cocaine and meth habits – not to mention the time I decided to quit mainlining sterno. (Just kidding - honest).
On the other hand, I don’t have the slightest problem talking myself out of the discipline associated with what few good habits I do have. A case in point is exercise. We routinely visit the local health club three times a week, but we took a break while traveling over the holidays. Then that was followed by a pesky cold that lasted a week and a half, and before I knew it, I hadn’t made it to the club in about six weeks and was well on my way to moving back up to my ‘fat-boy’ pants.
Likewise our blogs. For years we wrote a blog every day. (Well, actually, Marcie wrote five blogs a week and I wrote two). When we moved off Nine of Cups, we cut back to 3 times a week, and then, when we weren’t traveling or doing something interesting, we further reduced that to just twice a week. And then we took a ‘brief’ hiatus over the holidays which has now grown to more than two months. It is very easy to lose the daily writing habit, and now we can’t fathom how we ever managed seven blogs a week.
Well the hiatus is over and we’re back in the saddle again. I won’t steal her thunder, but Marcie has several great topics on her list to write about, and I have some new projects planned for Blue. There’s a few electrical home improvement projects in the works as well, but the real focus over the next couple of weeks will be prepping for our upcoming trip to Portugal and Spain. I want to document this trek with a few videos, and since I don’t want to lug a laptop computer in my pack, I plan to devote some time to finding the best video editing app for my new iPad Air.
Hopefully, we can limber up our typing fingers and our brains, get back our writing habit and generate some interesting blogs. Stay tuned.
