Blue View – How not to make a fitness video

One of the things we’ve had to give up with the shelter-at-home plan is going to the fitness club. We were pretty good at going to the local Planet Fitness 3-4 times a week, but we’ve been finding it difficult to get into the same routine at home. Last week, however, we made a commitment to work harder at it.

I did a fitness and exercising blog several years ago, extolling the virtues of High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT. It was a great way to stay fit while aboard our sailboat, and I thought maybe I could find a good video to help us get back into it here at home.

There are literally hundreds of fitness videos available on YouTube, and you’d think it wouldn’t be that hard to find one that suited our needs. We first looked for some senior exercise videos, but most of these were not strenuous enough.

I did find a pretty good one produced by the New York Times that was a good balance between balance, strength and cardio exercises.

We gave it a try, but a couple of the exercises were a bit much for us. We used to be able to do Burpees, for example, but we’re finding them pretty tough for our geriatric bodies. Here’s a short video we did that you might enjoy on on how not to do a burpee:

Likewise, the Single Leg Toe Touches were interesting, and here’s our video clip on how not to do these:

We thought that we could do our own fitness video, but didn’t get past the warm-up exercises before we decided that wasn’t the greatest idea:

As Marcie often says – “The reason birds can fly is because they take themselves lightly”, and that’s something we do well.

Finally, we came across this funny clip by Planet Fitness on how to use objects around the house for strength training:

BTW, we did find two sites that had some fitness videos to our liking - Planet Fitness and Silver Sneakers...
