What's up and what's next?

I know, I know, we haven't been blogging lately and when we do, it's sporadic at best. Some of you have expressed concern. Thanks for your kind thoughts. It's been a weird few months following an even weirder year. The December holidays which I love, were lackluster at best this year. The winter in Las Vegas, although mild, has been blah and drab. Weathering a year of the pandemic has put us into a blue funk... a time we've referred to as the doldrums.

A couple of weeks ago I was sick... high fever for several days, achy, headaches and so lethargic I could hardly move my head off the pillow for days. After 441 consecutive days of walking at least 10K steps a day, I was so out of breath, I could barely walk around the block, so we stopped walking. Though we've both received our Covid vaccine shots, I feared the worst. Since not all members of our household had been vaccinated, we opted to isolate in a local hotel room for over a week. The results of my Covid test took an agonizing 10 days for results... negative. It appears I might have had the flu or some other beastie. Really?

I'm all better now. We're back to walking every day, working at the local food bank once a week and going to the health club a couple of times a week. Most importantly, we're back to making plans. Realistic optimists that we are, we think things will be better by mid-late summer 2021 and we'll be able to travel. We're already endeavoring to insure we make the most of a careful re-entry into a hopefully post-pandemic world. We're ready to travel again.

So, what's on the agenda so far? A week-long 'vision quest' to support our youngest son, Brad, in South Dakota in June. This will be a learning experience for us as we're not familiar with this sacred Sioux ritual, but we're interested in finding out more. We're hoping to extend our trip a bit and do some biking and hiking along the way.

In early August, David's oldest sister turns 80. She lives in Colorado and we're planning to meet up with her and celebrate this monumental birthday. Not sure exactly where we'll celebrate, but we do intend to celebrate wherever she decides to be.

In mid-August, we've got a walk planned in England. Yup, we're chancing it and heading back to Britain for one of the national trail walks. More details on this walk in subsequent blogs, but we're already excited about the prospect of some future travel and walking time in England. There are lots of pandemic restrictions currently in place, but again, we're optimistic that they'll relax by the time we're ready to depart.

And then there are the 2021 Christmas holidays. We're planning to head to New England to spend time with Lin and her family... an annual tradition until 2020. We've got lots of catching up to do.

More details as we move forward, but suffice it to say... we'll be on the move in 2021!
