National Procrastination Day

National Procrastination Day, or Fight Procrastination Day as it is also called, is today - or actually was on September 6th, but I’m just getting around to writing about it today. As you probably know, this is the day that we say to ourselves “I’ll stop putting off until tomorrow all those things that should be done today”.

Marcie and I are both procrastinators, but in vastly different ways. On the one hand, she plans well and usually gets her tasks done well ahead of time. Our blogs are an excellent example. Marcie has already finished her blogs for next week - probably even for the next month, while my approach is somewhat different. If my next blog is due on, say, Monday, I estimate the amount of time I’ll need to write the blog, usually eight hours or so, then I plan on starting it around 10 AM Sunday, which should give me plenty of time to finish before dinner. At 3 AM Monday morning, as I’m irritably climbing into bed after putting the last touches on it (the research took far longer than I expected - and, oh yeah, there was a Broncos game on Sunday afternoon), Marcie demonstrates her procrastination tendencies by wisely choosing to put off until the next day any comments she might have on my planning skills.

Sometimes things do work out, however. I’m almost done with this blog which is not due until tomorrow, and it’s only 4 PM. Of course, a snide, hateful person might point out that, while this blog is early for tomorrow’s deadline, it is about 3 months and 10 days late for the original deadline of September 6, National Procrastination Day.

Here are some of my favorite quotes regarding procrastination:

Never put off till tomorrow what may be done the day after tomorrow just as well.  - Mark Twain

If it weren't for the last minute, I wouldn't get anything done. - Unknown

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by. - Douglas Adams

My parents told me I'd never amount to anything because I procrastinated too much. I told them, 'Just you wait'. - Judy Tenuda

Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday. - Unknown

Procrastinate now, don't put it off. - Ellen DeGeneres

The sooner I fall behind, the more time I have to catch up. - Unknown

And now I have a full week before I have to start worrying about my next blog. See you then…
