Every place we stop we find there’s always something new to learn and Pecos didn’t disappoint. Pecos is home to the world’s first rodeo, educated us about female WWII pilots (heretofore never heard of), and glorified Pecos Bill, a bigger-than-life folk hero.

Read MoreWe barreled across the Gulf Coast states on I-10. Mobile, Biloxi, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge all whizzed by in a blur. We stopped at each state’s Welcome Center for a few moments to stretch our legs and pick up state road maps (just in case), and by design, avoided stops in the big cities. We were heading to San Antonio, Texas to walk the lovely Riverwalk and explore the historic Spanish colonial missions.
