Do you remember where you were when you heard the news of 9/11? It was our first year aboard Nine of Cups and we were anchored in the harbor at Newport, Rhode Island. My sister, Lin, called just before 9AM to tell me a plane had accidentally crashed into the World Trade Center North Tower. While we were talking, the news broke that a second plane had crashed into the South Tower. It was no longer accidental, it was intentional. We dinghied into shore and found a bar that had a TV tuned to the news. We sat there for hours and listened in horror as we learned of the four hijacked planes. It’s not something that’s easily forgotten.

Big Macs, A New Hip & Lots of Cameras

The reason for the return to Pawtucket was Lin’s new hip. The scheduled hip replacement in early August had been delayed due to a positive COVID test. No one else in the family tested positive and Lin was totally asymptomatic, but rules is rules and the procedure had to be postponed for three weeks. We went off and cycled in Ohio and now we were returning to help out pre and post-op hip surgery.

Cycling in Ohio - Mohican Valley & Kokosing Gap Trails

From our reading, we anticipated coming across the Bridge of Dreams, a 370-foot long bridge spanning the Mohican River. This railroad bridge was originally built in the 1920s and, through a local effort, was covered in 1998. According to Wiki, “It is the second longest covered bridge in Ohio and the third longest covered bridge in the United States.”
