Back to the Las Vegas Routine

The countdown clock is tickin’.

The countdown clock is tickin’.

It doesn’t take long to get back into the old routine once we’re back in Las Vegas. We had a long list of ‘things to do’ when we arrived and we’ve been steadily ticking off the chores and line items and whittling the list down. The list never goes away, of course. It gets shorter for a time, then checked-off line items get replaced with new to-do items… and so life goes on.

Our morning routine reverted to our pre-Pandemic Road Trip routine. The alarm goes off at 0530. We read the morning NY Times, drink coffee and then we’re on the road by 0615. It’s still so hot here that any walking or riding needs to be done before 0900. We walk most every morning at our favorite place, Clark County Wetlands Park. Some days we bicycle there from home instead and do a long circuit around the park usually netting us a 11-12 mile ride.

Twice a week, we also go to the health club and work out. Planet Fitness (free with our health insurance plan) re-opened while we were gone and has instituted lots of safety measures including mandatory wearing of masks and social distancing. Additionally, we disinfect before and after use of each machine so we feel fairly safe while there. We haven’t missed one day of walking our 10K steps/day since New Year’s Day 2020. We’ve got quite a streak going now and it’s quite an incentive to keep walking each day. In addition to paying for health club dues, our Medicare Advantage plan also pays us to walk, by the way. We were each awarded $135 in gift cards this year just for walking every day.

We’re usually home by 0830 and then our day really begins. More coffee, morning family chat and then we all go our separate ways depending on our individual agendas. Mary works four days a week and spends most of her free time sewing masks. Paul’s handyman business keeps him busy most everyday. David has been working on Blue… the slide-out ramp in the back of Blue is a reality now. We’ve both been busy with overdue yard work. We have also renovated a small condo locally (it’s a long story and we won’t bother you with the details) and have now turned it into a rental. There’s the usual cleaning, maintaining and sprucing up that’s never-ending.

We’re not really sure where the days go, but they fly by and we seem to be busy constantly. We’re definitely tired at day’s end when the family typically reunites for wine-time, watching the evening news and then dinner. We take turns cooking (thank goodness) and cleaning up.

Life is not boring here. There’s always something to be done, always more to do. But once we fall back into a routine... after a week or two… we start getting itchy to be on the move. There’s so much to see and do out there, doing anything routinely seems a waste of precious time. The countdown clock is officially ticking once again. October 15th is just a couple of weeks away and we’re rearing to go. Hope you’re ready, too!
