Overcoming the Doldrums
/Happy NewYear!
It’s been so long since I’ve written a blog… or written anything for that matter… other than short notes on Christmas cards which I still send randomly though I’m told it’s old-fashioned. So, why haven’t we written many blogs in the past few months?
I’d like to use the pandemic as our justification. This excuse seems to work for so many people and so many situations. Many hotels, for instance, don’t provide housekeeping any more, nor hot breakfasts nor other amenities in order to ‘protect our customers from Covid’. These same hotels do not adhere to recommended Covid protocols for masking or keeping a safe distance. Seems like a lame excuse to use the pandemic to save a little money. Sorry… I digress.
I could also claim we just don’t have anything to write about. The pandemic has rendered us captives in our own home… bored to death and nothing but the ubiquitous tube to keep us occupied. What’s there to write about? Well, that’s not the case either. I’m writing from San Antonio,Texas. In the past 45 days, we drove nearly 7,000 miles in the Kia, traversing this grand country of ours and traveling through 25 states, some states more than once. We’re definitely not home bound and certainly not bored.
It’s not the pandemic at all. We previously posted 5-7 blogs every week without fail. We always found time to write, no matter how hectic the schedule or what we were doing. Now, we’re hard-pressed to get out one blog a month if we really put our minds to it. Writing the holiday newsletter was agonizing this year. It’s a malaise. David and I refer to this malady as the doldrums and I don’t think we’re alone.
But it’s time we shook it off and got busy writing and sharing again. I know, I know… I’ve said this before and didn’t follow through. But this year? This year, I’m making it a New Year’s Resolution… write more! I’ve got at least eight blogs just waiting to be written and posted with lots of photos to accompany them. So tune in… maybe this will be the year of the Just A Little Further Blog Revival… 2022 - the year we overcome the doldrums!
Of course, January 17th is Ditch Your Resolutions Day, so I’ve still got time to reneg.
