Meet Sugar Beet

The Just A Little Further website turned 11 years old this year and its ongoing success and endurance is due in large part to our niece, Gentry Anderson, who created the original website for us back in 2012 and who faithfully edited, formatted, and posted all of our blogs while we were aboard Nine of Cups. She still posts for us sometimes whenever we’re traveling and without internet.

Gentry has more recently launched her own web identity as the creator of Sugar Beet puzzle books available now on Amazon. We thought you’d enjoy hearing from her directly as she shares her journey into the world of puzzle books and explains why they are fun and great for your brain and overall mental health.

Now here’s Gentry…

My journey with Sugar Beet started as an exploration for a fun and engaging side gig. I tried my hand at various books like notebooks and prompt journals. When I came across puzzle books, I realized it was my true calling. Word puzzles are my favorite. There is something incredibly satisfying about creating these word challenges that feels just right.

Working on puzzle books is like working out in a gym for your brain. Whether solving a Sudoku or cracking a cryptogram, you give your mind a fantastic workout. These puzzles are not only entertaining, but they also help enhance memory, improve problem-solving skills, and act as a form of meditation to de-stress and focus the mind.

What I love about physical puzzle books, and what sets Sugar Beet apart, is their undeniable charm. They are perfect for those moments when you are off the grid without internet access. They are your go-to entertainment for long flights, train rides, or when you just want to relax in a cozy corner.

Sugar Beet puzzles are not only great for entertainment purposes, but they also offer significant educational value for teenagers, adults and seniors alike. They are an excellent tool for maintaining and enhancing your vocabulary, sharpening your logic skills, and keeping your mind engaged. Learning through puzzles is a delightful experience and I strive to provide this in every book.

The process of creating these puzzle books is something I really enjoy. Every step, from brainstorming new puzzle types to the intricacies of book design, is an adventure in creativity and learning. And here's some exciting news – I am currently exploring the world of crosswords and hope to release a Sugar Beet crossword book soon!

This is a glimpse into my world of creating puzzle books. I believe there is something special in these books for everyone – the mental health benefits, the joy of solving a good puzzle, and the convenience of a physical book.

Happy puzzling!
