Happy 14th Birthday, JALF!

Our website, JustALittleFurther.com, turns 14 today. Back in 2012, while we were sailing Australia’s east coast, our niece, Gentry, set it all up and became our webmistress. We wrote the blogs, sent them to her, and she posted them… every day.

We thought it was appropriate to launch our new website adventure on Columbus Day in 2012. Our very first blog was about the great explorer. It marked the start of something that has brought us a lot of enjoyment, and hopefully our readers as well. Check out our very first blog here.

Things have changed over the years. Once we were back in the USA in 2018 and were on land, we took over the website responsibilities from Gentry. We don’t post daily every day anymore and the blogs are not based on our life at sea, but are centered instead on our land lives and our travel lives. We’ve added several pages to the website that go way beyond just the blog. A Travelogue of all the places we’ve visited, a Trekking page about our ‘walks’ and a Biking page about our long bike rides, a Van Life page about a different kind of life aboard and the merits of long road trips, a Publications page with all the articles we’ve written and published, a Videos page and lots more. It’s definitely grown over the years!

In total, we’ve posted 2,738 blogs since that first Columbus Day blog in 2012. Every time we think it’s time to stop blogging, we wonder what it would be like not to blog, not to share… because the writing and the sharing are a big part of the enjoyment we derive from our travels and our adventures. Plus, how would we even remember what we’d done if we couldn’t refer to the blogs to remind us?
