There to Here – Friendly, Exotic Fiji Islands

If any country conjures up images of the exotic South Pacific, Fiji is it! Once known by Europeans as the Cannibal Islands, Fiji is now a friendly, destination paradise.

In Transit - A Lost Day

January 07, 2014/ Marcie

world clocks

En route to Australia … at last. Traveling west across the Pacific makes for an interesting phenomenon. I'm not sure if we've crossed the International Dateline or not. It's either yesterday or tomorrow, but it's not today. I left San Francisco late last night and I've lost a day completely. It's out there somewhere to the east, I just don't know where. This blog will post “today” for you, but really … it's yesterday for me.

I remember being in Fiji and actually standing on the International Dateline … half of me in each hemisphere. I found out later that the actual dateline juts around ,so that everyone in the country, and on the island of Tavenui, can live the same day at the same time.

straddling hemispheres

In just a few hours, I'll clear into Australia, board another plane to Adelaide and be home.

On the 13th (yes, 13th) Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me …

Thirteen wonderful welcomes

Twelve damned delays (NOT from my true love, believe me)

Eleven more hours of travelin' (and then some)

Ten hearts a'leapin

Nine frantic fixes

Eight bulky boat parts

Seven quests for hardware

Six shiny shackles

Five I miss you's

Four galley updates

Three e-mailed errands

Two bigger duffels and a

Christmas morning greeting on Skype

Just a Little Further

Hi there and welcome to Just A Little Further!

We are David and Marcie Lynn and we've lived aboard our Liberty 458 cutter-rigged sailboat since 2000.

What began as an urge to travel slowly and economically at our own pace ended up an adventure of a lifetime.

Well, here we are ... nearly 90,000 miles under the keel, 5 continents, 5 Great Southern Capes, 36 countries and almost two decades later, still taking one passage at a time and going just a little further.
