We must live under a rock because we’ve lived in the Las Vegas area for over six years and we’d never heard of “The Christmas House” in nearby Boulder City until we were watching the local news the other night, and it’s all they talked about.

Sometimes, we’d get a late-season crop if we planted hardy species in August. When we moved to Las Vegas we had to rethink gardening altogether. We are mostly xeriscaped here. Gardening in the Mojave Desert is a challenge.
Read MoreAbout three years ago, we acquired a Judy Garland rose bush. We thought Judy was a goner several times. She had been overtaken by the lantana in our absence and probably didn’t get enough water. I pruned her back in January and David increased the water drip a bit to see how she’d do. I’m pleased to report this is the first year Judy is thriving and she’s just produced her very first rose.
