Down the Dalton to Fairbanks

The evening at Marion Creek Campground was lovely… mild and warm-ish. Though still a bit hazy from the smoke, the air quality had improved substantially by day’s end. The lingering smoke enhanced the sunset. As we’ve begun heading south, the days have begun to shorten. Sunset is at 11pm now and diminishing at a rate of ~6 minutes/day.

North to the Arctic on the Dalton - 2

100 days on the road today. We were on the road by 0615 on the final leg of our journey to Deadhorse. A hazy sun was just peeking over the nearby mountains. We had made reservations on the Arctic Ocean Shuttle for a Prudhoe Bay tour at 3:30pm and still had ~140 miles to go. We’d heard there were construction delays along the road and wanted to insure we arrived in Deadhorse in plenty of time.

We pondered our next destination. South wasn’t an option; we’d just come from there. After driving 1000 miles on the gravel, pot-holed Dempster Highway, we”d decided that was enough of gravel roads. And east meant we were starting the return trip home.
