Tomar - Castles, Conventos and Knights Templar - Part 2

During the 13th century, Tomar was one of the most powerful and influential towns in Portugal. Gualdim Pais, a nobleman, knight, and Crusader, founded Tomar and, as Grand Master of the Knights Templar, built the castle and convent between 1118-1160.

Tomar - Castles, Conventos and Knights Templar - Part 1

We don’t really remember why Tomar came up on our radar. Maybe it was simply the lure of the Knights Templar history, legends, and legacy. As we discussed the possibilities of where to head after Porto, Tomar made the short list and became our next destination.

Two Days in Porto

 Two Days in Porto

Rather than trying to see everything, we decided we’d confine our Portugal explorations to 3-4 places for 2-3 days each, allowing us to relax and enjoy rather than cramming in city after city. Returning to Porto seemed a good place to start.

Just a Little Further

Hi there and welcome to Just A Little Further!

We are David and Marcie Lynn and we've lived aboard our Liberty 458 cutter-rigged sailboat since 2000.

What began as an urge to travel slowly and economically at our own pace ended up an adventure of a lifetime.

Well, here we are ... nearly 90,000 miles under the keel, 5 continents, 5 Great Southern Capes, 36 countries and almost two decades later, still taking one passage at a time and going just a little further.
