Since it was a short riding day, an afternoon diversion was in order. Dayton Aviation Heritage NHP, operated by the National Park Service, seemed a perfect place to spend a few hours. The Wright Brothers operated a bicycle shop and a print shop at the park’s location and it was here in Dayton that most of the development of their first airplane was conceived and conducted.

The connector dumped us onto lightly trafficked Columbus city streets and we wended our way through the Arena District and then the traffic increased. Part of the road was over brick surfaces and through downtown city intersections, riding down avenues in traffic lanes… not our favorite kind of cycling. it was, however, not as bad as anticipated.

Back in the Saddle Again - Alum Creek Greenway Trail

This part of the trail was superb. Instead of crossing busy streets, we went over and under them. The paved trail was smooth and level and passed over beautiful wooden arched bridges. Under a forested canopy, we criss-crossed over the Alum Creek as it wended its way along, sometimes riding over long, planked boardwalks.
